Hide & Seek is committed to making our website usable by as many people as possible, including those with disabilities. We aim to meet the standards of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
This page describes what we’ve done, what we know is imperfect, and how to reach us if you encounter a barrier.
01Our approach
We’ve built this site with accessibility considered from the start, not bolted on afterward. Specifically:
- Semantic HTML. Headings, lists, links, and form fields use the right elements so screen readers can navigate them.
- Color contrast. Text-to-background contrast meets WCAG AA ratios across the site.
- Scalable type. Text resizes when you zoom or increase your browser’s default font size.
- Keyboard navigation. All interactive elements — nav links, buttons, forms, the menu tabs — are reachable and operable using only a keyboard.
- Image alternatives. Photographs and decorative graphics include descriptive alt text or are marked as presentational.
- Focus indicators. Interactive elements show a visible focus state when navigated by keyboard.
- Reduced motion. Animations are subtle and limited to non-essential decoration.
02Known limitations
We’re honest about what isn’t perfect:
- Third-party services. When you reserve through Resy or buy a gift card through Toast, you leave our site and use theirs. We don’t control their accessibility, but both companies publish their own accessibility statements.
- The custom map on Find Us. The illustrated SVG map on our Find Us page includes alt text and labels, but for full turn-by-turn directions we direct users to Google Maps or Apple Maps via accessible buttons.
- Decorative typography. Some headings use a script-style typeface for visual atmosphere. The text is real text (not images), so screen readers read it correctly — but if it’s hard to read visually, your browser’s reader mode will switch it to a clearer face.
03How we test
We test the site through:
- Manual keyboard navigation. Walking through every page using only the Tab, Enter, and Escape keys.
- Screen reader sampling. Spot-checking pages with VoiceOver (macOS / iOS) and NVDA (Windows).
- Browser zoom. Confirming the site remains usable up to 200% zoom.
- Color contrast tools. Verifying text-to-background ratios.
We don’t claim formal certification. We do commit to fixing what we find and what you tell us about.
04Report an issue
If you encounter a part of the site that’s hard to use — whether you’re using assistive technology, a small screen, an older browser, or anything else — please tell us. We take these reports seriously and respond promptly.
When you reach out, it helps to include:
- The page or feature you were using
- What you were trying to do
- What happened (or didn’t)
- Your browser and assistive technology, if applicable
